Delivery Man Found After Being Stuck in Elevator For Nearly 4 Days

By Brad Kurtzberg

A deliveryman from a Chinese restaurant in the Bronx who had been missing since Friday night was found alive today.

35-year-old Ming Kuang Chen apparently spent the past four days stuck in between the fourth and fifth floors at the apartment complex where he made his last delivery. He was finally found at 4:56 AM Tuesday after being reported missing Friday night. Chen was dehydrated but seemed otherwise fine. He was taken to Montefiore Medical Center for treatment and observation.

The Happy Dragon restaurant where Chen works was concerned when he never returned Friday night from making a delivery to the Bedford Towers apartment complex in the Bronx.

Police made a door-to-door search of the complex, asking residents if they had any idea of Chen’s whereabouts. They also had body sniffing dogs and searched a nearby reservoir.

He was reportedly carrying $200 with him when he made his delivery, the third of three he was sent out on.

Mr. Chen is an illegal immigrant who speaks little English. Police are waiting for a translator to arrive at the hospital to get more information from the man.
